Why is the management of water important to your organisation?

Water is our most precious ingredient and is coming under increasing pressure across our markets. It is essential to our production process and used widely throughout our value chain. Managing our impact on water, and protecting this precious resource, is a critical priority for us and is reflected in our healthier planet sustainability strategy.

What are you hoping to achieve from participating in the Market Improvement Fund Water Stewardship Initiative?

I am hoping to greater understand the future trends on water and where the legislation may be moving in order to ensure our business becomes more resilient and addresses water-related risks, whilst also staying ahead of regulatory requirements and adopting best practices within water management. I am also looking to network and collaborate with industry experts and wholesalers to gain a better insight into 'What good looks like' and gather ideas on projects that other companies may have carried out in order to improve water efficiency.

Why do you think it is important for businesses in the UK to adopt water stewardship practices?

Proactive water stewardship helps businesses comply with increasingly stringent environmental regulations and can lead to significant cost savings by reducing consumption and treatment expenses. It also helps to drive innovation in processes and technologies, fostering more sustainable business practices.

Most importantly, as businesses face a growing responsibility to conserve resources and operate sustainably, these practices play a critical role in mitigating risks associated with water scarcity, which in turn helps protect ecosystems. By maintaining and boosting the health of both local and wider environments, businesses can ensure a sustainable future not just for themselves, but for the communities and natural habitats that also depend on these water resources. Embracing water stewardship is not just about compliance or reputation; it’s about securing the resources that are fundamental to both life and industry.
